Mandriva released a 2 GB USB flash drive with Mandriva Linux preinstalled. Two of the more interesting selling points are that one gig of it is free space for files, and that it includes all the fun 3D desktop effects.

I booted on the Mandriva One CD, noticed nice boot splash sequences, answered one too many questions about my favorite language, keyboard layout, home country, time zone, favorite time synchronization method, I signed a user license agreement and told Mandriva One I didn’t want to activate the 3D effects (I didn’t, because I wanted to keep that as a surprise for when it would be running from the hard-drive).

Tuxmachines.org has a review of MandrivaOne Beta 2.

The harddrive installer worked wonderfully. At first use it appears simple and lacking in options. One is asked their target partition(s) and boot loader information and off it goes. It took less than 15 minutes from start to finish to install Mandriva One onto my harddrive.

More screenshots from OSDir.com, this time of Mandriva Linux One 2006.0 Beta, its new LiveCD with installer. Putting an installer on a LiveCD seems to be popular right now, as Gentoo just released theirs yesterday, and Ubuntu is testing one on their beta-flight-6.04 pre-releases. It seems that Knoppix, MEPIS, PCLinuxOS, Kanotix, SLAX, and everyone else I’m missing were early to the “LiveCD with installer” party.
